Robbery
A person commits robbery if they steal, and immediately before or at the time of doing so, use force on any person or put (or attempt to put) someone in fear of being subjected to force. Robbery is sometimes referred to as “mugging” when it occurs in public places.
Robbery can happen anywhere, on the street, in shops, on public transport, or even in workplaces. It can be committed by strangers or by people known to the victim.
Robbery is essentially aggravated theft—it includes all the elements of theft but adds violence or intimidation.
Even minimal force can be enough for an offence to be considered robbery, and the law does not require a specific level of force.
